What to expect from Porchfest:

- Bands are required to find their own porch to play on in the NDG area. Front lawns, driveways, or backyards accessible from an alleyway are fine alternatives. Shows will take place on residential and non-commercial spaces.
- Musicians commit to playing a one-hour set on their porch at the time designated by the organizers. Musicians are responsible for supplying all the instruments and gear necessary for their show.
- Since the festival is neighbourhood-based and held during the day, musicians are expected to keep their repertoire family-friendly: explicit lyrics and overly loud amplifiers should be avoided.
- Since multiple groups are playing simultaneously, the crowd at any one location can be expected to change over the course of the hour-long set. Groups are expected to perform for the full hour regardless of the size of the crowd when the set starts.
- Before or after your show, we encourage you to walk around and support other local musicians!
- Porchfest will be raising money for a local NDG cause. We kindly ask that you put out a collection bucket and hold onto any money collected until we can arrange pick up or drop off.
- Porchfest's organizers will do a fair amount of publicity for the festival, but the best way to get the word out is by word-of-mouth. Tell your friends about your show, and encourage them to visit the festival's website and follow our Facebook page.
What to expect from Porchfest:
- Porchfest will be held on May 18 & 19, with the 20 as a rain date. (If you absolutely cannot play on one of the two days, please let us know in the "notes" section of the registration form and we will do our best to fit you in!)
- Once registration closes you will receive a welcome email. Following this, Porchfest organizers will put together a schedule and let you know what day and time you'll be playing and asking you to confirm your participation in the fest. The schedule will make it easy for concert-goers to catch as many acts as they can, and to help ensure your show gathers a decent crowd.
- Porchfest's goal is to give local musicians a chance to play in their neighbourhood and to give local residents a chance to hear their neighbours play. It's a wonderful opportunity for musicians to play in a relaxed setting without having to leave home, and for locals to discover how talented their neighbours are.
- This is the seventh year Porchfest will be taking place in Montreal, but there are many other Porchfests across North America. If you'd like to know more about the movement, you can check out the Porchfest Wikipedia page.
