About Porchfest:
On a warm weekend in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, you might not be surprised to hear someone strumming their guitar on their front porch, or maybe even their rooftop. Almost every street has a handful of musically inclined residents. And we certainly have porches! Porchfest gives those people—and porches—a chance to shine, and a chance for others to stop and listen without feeling shy about it! It's a weekend for NDG residents (and friends) to discover local musicians as they perform on neighbourhood front porches. Think of it as self-guided walking tour of NDG, with mini-concerts as your stepping-stones. Can you think of a better way to spend a sunny weekends in NDG? We certainly can’t! In addition to bringing residents together through local music, Porchfest also provides a great opportunity to appreciate NDG’s wonderful architecture and natural beauty! This grassroots community event is completely free—all you need is a good pair of walking shoes. The first community Porchfest was held in Ithaca, New York, and has since inspired many other towns and communities, who now hold very successful Porchfests every year! We hope to start the same great tradition here in NDG. Porchfest is organized entirely by volunteers, including the musicians who perform. À propos de Balconfête:
Par un beau jour à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, vous avez sans doute déjà entendu quelqu’un jouer de la guitare sur son balcon, ou peut-être même sur son toît. Plusieurs des résidents qui habitent les rues de notre quartier possèdent des dons musicaux. Balconfête tente de mettre à l’honneur ces musiciens — et leurs balcons — avec des concerts impromptus où tous seront conviés. En effet, Balconfête est une fin de semaine où les résidents et leurs ami(e)s pourront découvrir leur quartier en s’arrêtant devant les balcons de plusieurs musiciens locaux. Il s’agit d’une magnifique opportunité de découvrir de la nouvelle musique, mais aussi d’apprécier l’architecture vernaculaire et les paysages urbains de NDG. Quelle belle façon de débuter la saison printanière! Porchfest est organisé entièrement par des bénévoles, y compris les musiciens qui participent. Si vous souhaitez contribuer à la réalisation de cette célébration communautaire, nous serions ravis d'avoir de vos nouvelles! Le premier Balconfête (Porchfest) a eu lieu à Ithaca, New York. Depuis, plusieurs autre villes et communautés s’en s’ont inspiré avec grand succès. Nous espérons qu’il s’agira du début d’une nouvelle tradition ici aussi à Notre-Dâme-de-Grâce.
